 2001 Bear Hunting Season
MaineHunters.com
We had a great deer hunting season.
With many sightings of doe and skippers and ...of course the "Big Buck" that got lucky!
Our rifle season is done!

Well our season has finally ended!  I managed to get out a couple days of bow hunting in the last week and kissed a tree with an arrow on a nice doe, but there's always next year for her now!
We had snow for the last day of hunting in New Hampshire. I didn't see a buck that day, but I had the opportunity to let 3 doe live another year! Success is not always meat in the freezer!

With Maine's deer harvest down over 30% this 2001 season, I feel fortunate to have seen the amount of deer in my hunting area that I did this year. Many hunters in Maine are reporting that all they saw was one flag, or nothing at all season!
Buck sightings by me were limited to two actual known bucks, the doe ratio in Southern Maine is still very high from my sightings!!! Hopefully, with this many doe, next year and years to come racks will show up more prevalent in my hunting areas!

A Nice Pair of Does!

We just can't get the photo shots correct!

How wolf-like are Maine coyotes?
Since the late 1930's, people in Maine have noted that coyotes in this state were different from western coyotes.  Maine coyotes are larger, averaging 30 lb. and 35 lb. (female and male, respectively) as compared to 21 lb. and 24lb for western coyotes, and prey more on deer than coyotes out west. However, it was the occasional coyote that topped 40 pounds that really sparked people's curiosity.

Dave had a great season 2001!
and his young friend Josh too!

Dave and I spent a few days this fall
bow hunting! We brought nothing home but... great memories! Isn't that what hunting is really all about!
I know I love all the memories of the deer we let pass by
our stands each year, just as much as the one's we get to photograph for this website!

Hunting is not just pulling the trigger or releasing an arrow!

Erwins Story.....
This is my first bird, I had a great time! I hunted on posted land , in Unity, "with permission".  I set up early morning just before light, I set out my decoys and had hens and toms come in at first light. I called in a nice bird, one shot in the head at 15 yds killed him instantly! I had a good time and I will definately apply again next year too. The only way to hunt them is to call them in! I feel its the connection you get between you and the bird, it's a great feeling.

This one was shot in front of there camp at 200 yds
3 yrs ago! They've done some cutting in the last two years and it might take a while to come back real good again!

A Nice little spot! Looks like a great meadow!
